One Direction's Niall Horan and Mike Phillips offered £50,000 for boxing match

Niall Horan and Mike Phillips

One Direction's Niall Horan and Mike Phillips have been offered £50,000 to settle their differences with a charity boxing match.

The pair got into a Twitter spat after Wales' defeat to Ireland, during which the boy band singer called the Welsh scrum-half a "vicious idiot".

In return, Phillips told him to visit him at a Welsh rugby training session, adding: "Bring the rest of The Beatles with you."

Now bookmakers Paddy Power have offered them a chance to settle their differences by sticking on a pair of boxing gloves for a charity fight.

Bosses have offered €50,000 (around £40,000) to whoever comes out on top – and another €10,000 (around £8,200) for the loser.

They have also offered €10,000 to Ireland full-back Rob Kearney – who stuck up for Niall during the fight – if he is willing to referee the bout.

Paddy Power's Feilim MacAnIomaire insisted it was a serious offer.

He told the Irish Mirror: “This is absolutely a real offer to the both of them – why the hell not? It would be craic. We would like them to both jump on board, but who knows if they will be able to find the time.

“They have both got very busy schedules. But I am pretty sure how we would price it. It would be very, very long odds on poor Niall Horan.

“But whether or not he would be brave enough to step into the ring with Mike Phillips – even if it is for charity – he would be a bigger man than me.”
